A Call for Non-Violent Disobedience

Muslims, radical and many moderate, are proposing a giant 13 story mega-mosque to be built in the shadow of Ground Zero that will rise above the sacred innocent ashes of those maliciously killed by Islamic terrorist on September 11, 2001.  If this ill advised, dagger in our soul project proceeds, then I call for non-violent, civil disobedience.

Some will likely pounce on this call as another case of Islamophobia (that’s what liberals/progressives/academics do—they demonize). Instead of cogent arguments, they play the race card; accuse conservatives of bigotry and demagoguery, and issue infantile commentary like our opposition is based on fear and loathing of what is different. The slanderous accusations of racism are calculated to achieve one goal and one goal only—silence dissent.

However, our arguments against the mosque at Ground Zero are purely a matter of common respect and human decency—Western values that many Muslims and some liberals fail to appreciate.

Overwhelmingly, sensible Americans are justly outraged that Muslims are another step closer to building a mosque next to the sacred site of Ground Zero. The co-founder of Hamas champions the proposed mosque project as does probably many liberals in Oklahoma. What a shame.

The Imam behind the project is a documented radical who refuses to discuss where the millions of dollars will come from (perhaps from Islamic terrorist organizations); he said 19 days after 9-11 that the USA “was an accessory” in the Islamic attack there; he calls on our laws to accommodate Sharia (Islamic) laws; we should provide Sharia courts; and he refuses to acknowledge Hamas as the terrorist organization it is.

This proposed mosque is a direct assault on our honor and sensibilities; it is an in your face provocative political act—Muslim triumphalism.

Historically, some mosques are built as victory shrines next to sites of Islamic battles over their enemies. This is exactly how multiplied millions of Muslims will view the mosque which will embolden them to renew their jihadist war on Americans and Western world values and culture.

Moderate Islam has nothing to do with terrorism except many moderate Muslims are either sympathetic to actions against “infidels” or are fearful to speak out publically against bombings and beheadings and by this deafening silence give tacit consent to their radical brothers and sisters’ reign of terror.

Ground Zero is sacred, for God’s sake! So many innocent victims and rescuers lost their lives there to Islamic terrorist. I am hoping that thousands of Americans will travel to NYC to protest.  If protests fail to stop the building, then there must be non-violent, civil disobedience to impede the building effort.

The proposed mosque is not just a local issue; it is, in fact, a national issue. NYC is the heart of our nation in so many ways; and 9-11 is all of us. There are over a 100 mosques in NYC; Muslims can build this one further away from America’s sacred site.

“moderate” Muslims are truly interested in building bridges of understanding; you do not begin by rubbing people’s faces in the aches of grief and devastation of their loved ones.  Instead, you find a place that will not be so dramatically offensive.  The governor offered another site; it was rejected.  This makes their motive suspect.

Muslim’s continued endeavor to build this mosque will inflame resentment, propel alienation between them and others, and set back relations between Muslims and other Americans for years. This project will prove significantly counter-productive for Muslims.

The President and moderate Muslims have failed to positively lead our nation on this national issue. Yes, emphatically yes, the proposed mosque is constitutionally allowed and legal…that is not the real issue. Muslims, liberals and the President know this is not the real issue.

The former mayor of New York City says that eighty to ninety percent of the survivors oppose the mosque project. On 9/11 this year, Ms. Sally Regenhard, who lost her son that day, said “This is the worst anniversary…we were vilified because we didn’t support a project that was in the wrong place at the wrong time and I feel is going to be built for the wrong reason.”  Sally, on behalf of my country, I apologize and am so sorry for the pain and grief made worst by foolish and insensitive decisions.

The real issue is the wisdom, morality and appropriateness of this provocative proposal.  This mosque dishonors the dead of 9-11 and crushes the sensitivities of the surviving families.  Just because one has a right does not make it right!

Again, if wisdom and protests fail, then I urge for non-violent, civil disobedience at the site. Come and join me.
